| and now, for a much happier livejournal entry...
last night i saw barenaked ladies live for the first time since, um... 2000. since it was a holiday show, i didn't have very high expectations... i thought it was going to be all songs from barenaked for the holidays with like 4 actual songs thrown in. (of course, i had to go anyway, because they were playing like 5 minutes from campus, and this is the first time they'd been in tucson since 1992.)
anyway, it far, far exceeded my expectations. some song highlights:

haha... overall, i was pretty easily pleased last night. i also enjoyed rejecting the woman in front of me when she offered a handful of macaroni to me at the beginning of $1000000. on second thought, i should have taken it and just thrown it at her head.
so, i've been going to BNL concerts for seven years and before last night, had never met them. (although unlike some of you crazies, this was only my 5th concert.) last night jamie and i were pretty much determined to meet them. of course it decided to actually rain and get cold last night for the first time since... well, last winter. i know, i'm a wimp. but we got to meet kevin, tyler, ed, and jim. no steve. we actually saw kev signing stuff in the lobby before the show, so he signed our tickets then. so when he came by to sign stuff after the show, we were like "you already signed our ticket but can we get a picture?" and as soon as we said that, his phone rang and he ran off to take the call... for the next, like, 45 minutes. but then he came back and took pictures.
the greatest moment ever was when i was getting my picture with ed. jamie did something weird to the settings on my camera so she kept taking the picture and it kept coming out weird, so ed's standing there with his arm around me and says "that's ok, we'll just cuddle til you get it right." for those of you who don't know, i've pretty much been enamored with ed robertson since i was 14 years old, so that was pretty hot.

| i think that it is finally time for this journal entry. this seems like something you don't just post on a livejournal, but i have several friends who know what's happening in my life just through lj, and this isn't something i can just not tell people, i guess. or something.
last weekend - over thanksgiving break - my mom and i went down to mexico to get our advanced diving certification. on saturday morning, we came up from our dive and something happened - i'll probably never know what - and my mom was unconscious. they did CPR the entire hour-and-a-half boatride back to san carlos, but after we got there, she died. needless to say it was the worst day of my life.
so, i've been totally in a different world this past week, and nothing really seems right. i don't really know what to do with myself except to keep on going - i guess that's all i can do, eh? to those of you who knew my mother, i'm sorry if this is the way that you had to find out.

| so i feel kind of ... empty lately. i'm not sure why. i'm having a pretty good summer so far, i guess... like, it's not bad, but nothing too exciting is happening. basically i've been working at flandrau on the weekends, doing some RHA stuff, and doing a lot of sitting around my room, taking naps, sleeping late, etc. my roommate and i have fun together because we get along superbly and have a lot if weird similarities, so that's fun.
i think that part of it is that i feel like i don't really have many friends here. pretty much the only people i ever see are the RHA e-board people. i love all of them, and they are fun to hang out with, but ...there are only 7 of them, you know? lisa and amy and steph and karen are all at home in phoenix, emily's off in italy, alissa's in aspen for the summer, stephanie has her internship in alabama, finke's working in atlanta for the summer, etc. no one is ever online, and i'm pretty convinced that i've lost all ability to talk to people online, because when i do IM people, it's like "hi. how are you? good. me too." why are my conversations so boring? oh, because NOTHING is happening in my life that i can talk about.
anyway, i feel like there is something else to my mysterious emptiness, but i can't quite put my finger on it. i don't feel motivated to do ANYTHING. maybe i'm just burnt out on life in general. i need to get out of the state. i just got back from NACURH in syracuse, but i don't feel like that counts. i want to drive somewhere so that i can really feel how far away from home i am. i want to experience a different place in the way i experienced san francisco over spring break. i want to do something!!! | | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |

| okay, i haven't updated in a very long time.
i moved out of the nado, and into la cienega which is absolutely beautiful. our rooms are huge. my roommate is maggie and we are in a pod with karen and emily, which is super fun and awesome. we decorated our bathroom and now it's really cute.
on tuesday we leave for NACURH... well, we leave for phoenix, stay there overnight, and then fly out of phoenix to syracuse at 6am on wednesday morning. rock on. i am so excited for the conference - i am convinced it's going to rock. then after we get back i can start really focusing on RHA stuff. like HLC. definitely need to plan that.
i'm at work right now, and i've only been here for 45 minutes, and it's more boring than usual. i think part of it is that i'm with a different cashier who i don't know well at all, so we don't really talk. i'm also convinced that part of it is that i'm not as immune to boredom during the summer as i am during the school year, since i don't spend half my life trying to stay awake through boring classes. and i'm going to pretend, in my mind, that that makes sense.
so here's my exciting/sucky news of the day: my eye hurts. boo! it has felt like it has an eyelash stuck in it for approximately 5 hours now, which i take to mean that it's not really an eyelash, because if it were, it would be out by this time. so i'm thinking it might be something else, which is really bad because the other things that i can think of are that my cornea is scratched or i have some kind of infection. i'm wearing my glasses right now (and have been for at least a few weeks), but i really wanted to change into my contacts before NACURH just so that i don't have to worry about it (because i have the kind of contacts that you wear overnight). but, clearly, if my eye is scratched or infected, it's probably a bad idea to wear contacts. the other part that sucks is that i have no idea when i can even get it checked. blah!

so there's this one girl who, whenever i see her facebook profile (and for some reason i come across it a lot, we're connected somehow) her name sounds totally familiar to me. and i could never figure out why it sounded so familiar.
well, i'm cleaning out my drawers right now and i just found a piece of paper with her name and catcard number written on it. i wrote her up for alcohol in like september! that's really entertaining to me. not sure why. the end. | | comments: Leave a comment |
